Obituary:  Sri Anil Kumar Majumdar

Sri Anil Kumar Majumdar born March 17th of 1927 in Nabadwip, West Bengal India, was the son of the late Sri Pramathanath Majumder and Smt Indira Chowdhury. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at the age of 95.

He is survived by his daughter, Shonali Majumder, son-in-law Subhas, and grandchildren Vivek and Amritaa Sreeram of Houston, TX; as well as his extended family.

After earning his higher degree in law, he went on to working as an executive in a British Company. He married Smt Gita Sengupta and had his only child, Shonali. He was an avid traveler, having visited all corners of India and documented his journeys along the way in a photo journal.

Sri Anil led an extraordinarily disciplined life – from the way he dressed himself to the way he took care of his health. To be early was on time and to be on time was to be late. He passed on these guidelines of life to his cherished grandchildren, Vivek and Amritaa.

His commitment extended into all aspects of his life, especially his faith. He was a great devotee of Sri Ramakrishna, Maa Sharada, and Swami Vivekananda. He devoted years of ardent service to the Vedanta Society of Toronto and was a committed and dedicated member of the Mission. He spent time each week volunteering in the Mission’s Soup Kitchen which served the homeless and the hungry. He also cherished his library of religious books and spent much of his time writing spiritual discourses.

Sri Anil loved his family dearly. His daughter, Shonali, was always the light of his life who cared for and supported him until his final moments. His grandchildren were heavily influenced by his teachings. He touched the lives of so many people. He will be truly missed and will never be forgotten.

Best represented by the words of the head of the Vedanta Society of Toronto, Swami Kripamayananda, “his whole life was a saga of peace, love, and service… he was a true karma yogi, a true lover of God, and he always worshiped God through service to human beings”

The services will be held on December 15th, 2022 at 10am at Winford Funeral Home and Crematory located at 8514 Tybor Dr Houston, Texas 77074. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Vedanta Society of Greater Houston.
